Many professional leadership development programs include group projects as part of their curriculum to allow participants an opportunity to hone their interpersonal and teamwork skills. Shorter program timeframes of 6 months or less than a year, however, can often lead to a stunted ability for program participants to develop projects with much depth or that create lasting change.
I therefore count myself lucky to have been in a group with other 2006-2007 Humphrey Policy Fellows that resulted in cooperation with the Citizens League and launched its still-vibrant
Students Speak Out initiative. And that's why I'm highly impressed that several Fellows from this past year's cohort have managed to write and publish a book about leveraging social media for social change!
Next week, The White House Project will help showcase Policy Fellow Kelly Groehler in a workshop on strategic application of social media and online engagement. What's not to like?
