This weekend boasts a number of exciting events in Minnesota communities, including the Cinco de Mayo Fiesta in St. Paul's District del Sol, the 38th annual MayDay Parade & Festival in South Minneapolis, and Duluth's Homegrown Music Festival. In the midst of all the fun and flurry, two significant events surrounding educational equity issues will also take place in Minneapolis, and will provide a forum to create the communities we want to see beyond celebrating the ones we are already so proud to be a part of!

Friday night’s  Julian Parker Lecture will feature Sheryll Cashin, Professor of Law at Georgetown University and author of The Agitator’s Daughter: A Memoir of Four Generations of One Extraordinary African Family (2008). She is currently she is working on a new book about the future of American race relations. Professor Cashin’s conversation: Shall We Overcome? Educational Equity and the future of Multiracial Politics will be very interesting given the current conversations surrounding this topic in Minnesota.

The Saturday Conference will be an excellent opportunity for educational equity leaders to gain knowledge of current and proven theories, frameworks, and research, along with best and promising practices that support increased academic outcomes and educational equity. Featuring Eric Cooper of the National Urban Alliance, a series of relevant break-out sessions, and a panel of local leaders and policy makers, the day will engage equity leaders from across the region in collaboration, new learning, and critical reflection on our work.
