[#mnrising Dispatch] June 2013 Just a few days ago, we hosted a thought-provoking, "Collaborative Competence: Cultivating Capacity for Collective Leadership" World Cafe with friends new and old at The Engine Room! We considered what current and emerging trends tell us about how Minnesota will look in 5 and 30 years, explored the role that leadership has played in shaping what our state looks like today as well as the role it could play in shaping our future communities, and deliberated about what tools and competencies the rising generation will need to successfully navigate and shape Minnesota's future. As we move forward in developing a Collaborative Competence Learning Labs Series to study and practice these critical skills in an inclusive and ever-evolving way, we invite you to join the conversation by indicating your interest in serving on the design team for this initiative to minnesotarising[at]gmail.com or by signing up to take part in an "Our Minnesota" Cascading Conversation. We look forward to hearing about your experiences in leading change and the capacities and perspectives you consider critical for leading into the future! Boards and Commissions Leadership Institute Nexus Community Partners   Based on a program developed in the Bay Area by non-profit Urban Habitat, the Boards and Commissions Leadership Institute (BCLI) trains community members and leaders from communities of color and other underrepresented communities to serve on decision-making bodies. A primary goal of the BCLI is to build a progressive network of decision makers and advocates working for more equitable policies on key issues affecting the lives of people of color and underrepresented communities in economic development, employment, health, housing, and transportation in the Twin Cities region. [Read more.] Mentoring Tomorrow's LEADers The LEAD Project The LEAD Project is excited to announce the launch of our new nonprofit mentorship program. This program is an extension of LEAD's ongoing educational efforts to develop future nonprofit leaders. The first of its kind, this two year program will offer young leaders the opportunity to be partnered with today's nonprofit leaders as their mentors. We are looking for up-and-coming volunteers who are dedicated to serving in nonprofit leadership roles to be mentees in this new program. Applications will be open until July 10th. [Read more.] Human-Centered Design for Social Innovation IDEO.org +Acumen IDEO.org is proud to announce Human-Centered Design for Social Innovation, a five-week course that we've created in conjunction with Acumen. This course will get you started using the human-centered design process to create innovative, effective, and sustainable solutions for social change in your community.
