Young Education Professionals-Twin Cities
Minnesota is the land of 10,000 lakes as well as 10,000 ideas on how to improve the education system.
Like Minnesota’s lakes, Minnesotans have a passion for education. Citizens of Minnesota know that education impacts everyone across sectors and industries. In fact, the state is home to the greatest number of Fortune 500 companies per capita with education as a primary method for recruitment. Minnesota also owns some of the greatest educational disparities by race and ethnicity.
Nationally, Young Education Professionals believes that education in the United States will be improved if education professionals connect with each other in a range of environments. In Minnesota, Young Education Professionals-Twin Cities (YEP-TC) is working to connect passionate young professionals throughout 10,000 education ideas.
YEP-TC is the Twin Cities chapter of Young Education Professionals, a non partisan, non-ideological organization founded in Washington, D.C. (YEP-DC). YEP-TC is a volunteer-run organization created by and for young professionals, that connects tomorrow’s education leaders through relationship-building, knowledge development, career and professional development and community engagement.
Founded in 2012, YEP-TC has had an excellent inaugural year of programming. The organization has hosted many happy hours including community engagement opportunities and with Minneapolis and Saint Paul School Board members. YEP-TC co-hosted a training on Adverse Childhood Experiences, toured Hiawatha Academies and hosted a book club with the author of the first ever chartered schools law. Just recently YEP-TC launched a blog, Extra Credit.
YEP-TC has also been a part of a fantastic series called EDTalks along with AchieveMpls, tpt and the Citizens League. The series highlights what’s working in education by featuring diverse experts with a 20 minute talk similar to a TEDTalk. In October the organization co-hosted a special edition EDTalks on Creativity, Innovation and Education, which sold out in three days and was taped for broadcast. "The Learning Course" will premiere on tpt's MN channel on Sunday, November 10th at 7:00pm. EDTalks will continue with quarterly events in 2014.
Young Education Professionals-Twin Cities is always looking for new ideas, great speakers, and more members. Whether you're an edupreneur, researcher, teacher, or an aspiring education professional - YEP-TC welcomes anyone interested in education! Through intentional programming and dialogue YEP-TC hopes to create rivers and streams between Minnesota’s 10,000 lakes. Follow YEP-TC on our listserv, Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn.
