Accepting Applications: Inaugural RISE Program in Twin Cities

New Sector Alliance is expanding to the Twin Cities with the launch of their Residency in Social Enterprise (RISE) program in September 2014! They're in search of members for an inaugural cohort of 15 early career Fellows, who will take part in an 11-month professional development program. See below for additional details to support their efforts by becoming an organizational partner, volunteering as a Mentor or Trainer, and/or applying to serve as a RISE Fellow!

New Sector Alliance is expanding to the Twin Cities! We are excited to join the social impact community in the Twin Cities with the launch of our Residency in Social Enterprise (RISE) program in September 2014. Our Twin Cities program will build on the impact we've made on communities in Boston, the San Francisco Bay Area, and Chicago.

The RISE Fellowship is an 11-month professional development program for early career professionals committed to careers in social impact. Fellows serve full-time to strengthen nonprofit organizations, while engaging in intensive training activities to strengthen their skills for immediate and future impact. Join an inaugural cohort of 15 early career professionals in the Twin Cities, and build your career in the social sector!

Program Activities:

By joining the inaugural RISE cohort in Twin Cities, Fellows build the necessary tools to succeed in long-term social sector careers and benefit from the following:

• Host Site projects provide Fellows with experiential learning and the opportunity to realize the impact of their work as they complete high-impact projects that help a community organization create, improve or services. • 1:1 Mentorship from experienced professionals who bring industry knowledge and expertise from management consulting, business, and nonprofit fields and come from organizations like Accenture, IndieGoGo, and The Bridgespan Group. Click here to learn more about our Mentors.
• Training through our Social Impact Leadership Curriculum as facilitated by industry leaders allow Fellows to build high-demand sector skills around topics such as Structured Problem Solving, Workplanning, Social Entrepreneurship, Organizational Strategy, Personal Branding, and more!
• Peer-learning and staff coaching are a crucial component as Fellows join an inaugural cohort of 15 early career professionals, and are grouped into Learning Teams to gain regular support and coaching throughout the program.

​Compensation and Benefits:

• Living stipend of $19,000
• Health-care coverage with no financial contribution from the Fellow
• A $5,550 Segal AmeriCorps Education Award, upon successful completion of the program.*

Application

Who can Apply?

• Early career professionals who are committed to pursuing a career in the social sector.
• Recent college graduates with up to 5 years of professional work experience.

Timeline:

Applications Open- June-July 2014

June 30, 2014 is the recommended application submission date. Rolling applications accepted afterwards.

Selection Process - July-August 2014

Successful candidates will progress through four rounds during the selection process:

1. Application Screening
2. 30-45 minute Phone Interview with a New Sector program alumna/us
3. 45-60 minute Phone or In-person Interview with New Sector staff
4. Reference checks with at least two professional references

​*New Sector is not able to refund travel expenses for interviews and does not penalize candidates who interview by phone.

When candidates accept an offer to join the cohort, they must accept enrollment in the program as a whole, not with any one particular host site or project.  We begin the matching process (see below) after individuals accept a spot in the cohort.

Matching Process - August, 2014

After accepting our offer, New Sector will offer incoming Fellows interviews with potential host sites. After each ‘matching interview’ we will seek feedback from both the Fellow and the host site in order to identify the best possible match.  It is likely that each accepted Fellow will end up at one of his or her preferred host sites, but it is in no way guaranteed that even the most qualified applicant will end up at his or her first choice site.

Program Dates:

The RISE program in the Twin Cities will run from September 2, 2014 - July 31, 2015.

Two-week kickoff orientation begins September 2, 2014.
