Unsheltered Count - July 24, 2014
The next Unsheltered Count is right around the corner! Thank you to everyone who helped with our last survey in April - we had another successful count because of your help!
The Unsheltered Count is a point-in-time survey conducted quarterly by St. Stephen's Human Services' Street Outreach Team and volunteers. By going into the community and to sites that work with people experiencing homelessness, we attempt to identify people who stayed awake, slept outside, doubled up with friends or family, or slept in other unsafe or substandard conditions.
The purpose of the Unsheltered Count is to:
- learn more about the unsheltered population so we can better serve them;
- educate the community about the number of people who are unsheltered throughout the year; and
- use data to secure funding for organizations working to end homelessness.
The next count is Thursday, July 24th. We are looking for volunteers to assist our staff to reach as many unsheltered homeless individuals and families as possible. If you are interested in helping out, we have volunteer shifts available throughout the day (7:30 am - 8:00 pm) at different sites around Minneapolis.
There have been some recent changes to the survey, and we are asking all new volunteers to attend an orientation session, which we will coordinate with you.
If you would like to sign up to volunteer, please contact me ASAP. Please share this email with anyone you think might be interested in helping out.
Thank you for your ongoing support of our mission!
