About Our Speakers: Our new series of EDTalks kicks off with an intimate conversation with Joe Brewster and Michèle Stephenson! They are the producers and directors of the compelling film American Promise and authors of the companion book, Promises Kept: Raising Black Boys to Succeed in School and Life. They're also the parents of one of the main subjects in the film. Joe and Michèle will share what they learned as parents and filmmakers. | ||||||
About the Film:
A documentary 13 years in the making, American Promise provides a rare look into the lives of two middle class black families as they navigate the ups and downs of parenting and educating their sons. The movie chronicles the boys' divergent paths from kindergarten through high school graduation, presenting complicated truths about issues of race, class and opportunity. Learn more about the film.
