[#mnrising Dispatch] October 2015
As the weather cools down outside, the calendar for indoor activities in Minnesota heats up. See below for opportunities with Minnesota Rising and our colleagues in the community in the weeks ahead!
- We're two weeks away from the Minnesota Rising IDEA GENERATION at Impact Hub MSP, an opportunity for you to inspire others and be inspired by others. Register today to develop your problem-solving skills, build great connections through resource-sharing, and to help advance ideas to impact Minnesota's future!
- #mnrising's LOCUS initiative is co-hosting the November 12 BCLI Issue Series: Intersectionality. Save your seat today for an interactive workshop on the complexity of our characters and the importance of identity-driven leadership!
- To celebrate #mnrising's work in 2015 and start thinking about learnings (and un-learnings for 2016), join us for a potluck Sounding Board Session on November 24 from 5:30pm - 7:30pm.
The Overcoming Racism conference is officially sold out but check out the free film and discussion pre-event featuring a screening of We Rock Long Distance on the 13th. And, as we prepare to enter into a season focused on giving, consider volunteering your time with #mnrising friends Free Bikes 4 Kidz, a Twin Cities nonprofit that repairs gently used bicycles and gives them to kids in need (tackle bike repair or cleaning between 9am - 9pm daily from October 12th - December 4th or assist with the Give Away scheduled for December 5th and 6th), and/or Reading Partners Twin Cities, a national nonprofit dedicated to closing the achievement gap by helping elementary students from low-income communities boost their reading confidence and competence (volunteer as a reading tutor for one hour each week during the school year at one of six Twin Cities elementary school sites)!

MN Capitol Pathways 2016
Citizens League
This internship program has been created with the understanding that, to build a strong state, Minnesota government and the people who run it must be representative of the diversity of the state. Unfortunately, people of color are largely absent from legislative decision making in Minnesota today, a fact which is stubbornly slow to change even as the state's population becomes ever more diverse. With the long-term goal of making our government truly representative of our communities, this program seeks to open access to the Minnesota capitol to the next generation of leaders of color.
