[#mnrising Dispatch] August 2017
From Hurricane Harvey to Charlottesville, this month's headlines hurt the heart. More than ever, as the stakes become increasingly higher and the challenges painstakingly extreme, we are reminded we must seek and speak the truth; call out racism, hate, and bigotry in all forms; and more importantly, go beyond merely discerning and disparaging to do the life-giving work of holding space, building relationships, and ultimately creating the kind of community that knows, values, and is in relationship with one another and the earth. And especially doing so in a way that honors the need for our self-care and collective care. May we bring light and heat to what the world calls forth from each of us now.

2017 Elections Summit
America’s increasing reliance on social media creates exciting new opportunities in the realm of elections. Facebook’s pioneering effort in 2016 to make voter registration easier and more accessible reduced costs for taxpayers and increased citizen engagement in Minnesota. The effort helped Minnesota to regain its #1 ranking in voter turnout. The 2017 Minnesota Election Summit, which serves as the University's 2017 Constitution Day event, brings together Facebook leaders with Secretary of State Steve Simon and others to spotlight the breakthroughs in 2016 and lessons for 2017 and beyond. Join us Thursday, September 14, Noon - 1:30 p.m. at the Cowles Auditorium at the Hubert H. Humphrey School of Public Affairs, University of Minnesota. [Learn more.]
