[#mnrising Dispatch] September 2018 The start of another school year, the recent autumnal equinox, and the cooler weather of late are sure signs that we are transitioning to a new season in our Minnesota geography. So we anticipate the upcoming holidays—civic, religious, state—and prepare ourselves to recognize Indigenous People's Day on October 8, celebrate Día de los Muertos and All Hallow's Eve at the close of the month, and vote in upcoming local and national elections soon after. Minnesota offers voter registration online, by mail, and in person. In Minnesota, you can also register at your polling place on Election Day (this includes registering when you go to vote if you are voting early). To help you make good on your #IWillVote pledge, visit the Secretary of State's website to register. Shannon Leadership Institute Apply by October 15 The James P. Shannon Leadership Institute's mission is to nurture the creativity and vitality of community-serving leaders from all sectors. [Read more.] Indigenous People's Day 2018 Festival   Indigenous Peoples Day is a celebratory gathering that continues to honor the perseverance and culture of Indigenous people. In 2014, the Native American Community Development Institute (NACDI) worked with the Native American Urban community to campaign and won to recognize Indigenous Peoples' Day instead of Columbus Day in Minneapolis using community development, engagement, and organizing. All My Relations Gallery (AMRA), and NACDI is hosting an Indigenous Peoples Day Festival to raise awareness, and provide education of Native American Arts.
