[Minnesota Rising Dispatch] September 2019

[#mnrising Dispatch] September 2019

This month's autumnal equinox helped those of us in the northern hemisphere cross the threshold into the fall season. And so we try to imitate nature by creating a sense of welcome; in this case, as a part of MSP Welcome Week 2019. Thanks to Make It. MSP. for partnering on a great LOCUS MSP Welcome Week Family Dinner to connect with longtime and newer residents of the Greater Minneapolis-St. Paul area!

MSP Welcome Week Family Dinner at Gandhi Mahal

In the spirit of building connections to lead our communities, League of Women Voters St. Paul (LWVSP) holds nonpartisan candidate forums each election cycle for local elected offices, with opportunities for the public to meet the candidates and put forth questions to them about leadership of the city. The October dates for its upcoming St. Paul City Council candidate forums are listed on their online events calendar. All candidate forums are free and open to the public. Join them or other organizations hosting events in this month's Dispatch to engage in active citizenship!

YNPN-TC Peer Mentor Program

YNPN-TC is launching a Peer Mentor Program in October. The Program will feature mentor groups that meet once a month to challenge and engage with each other. This is a Peer Mentor Program, so program planners do not expect anyone to provide career counseling or career opportunities. This is a safe space meant for brainstorming, collaboration and support. Kick-off is estimated to take place from 5-8 PM on Thursday, October 24 at Impact Hub MSP. You should consider this program if you want to share your own experiences, learn from others in your field, demonstrate leadership skills and expand your network! Fill out the survey, register online, and keep an eye out on the YNPN Twin Cities website for more details! [Learn more.]

Accepting Shannon Leadership Institute Applications

The James P. Shannon Leadership Institute's mission is to nurture the creativity and vitality of community-serving leaders from all sectors. The Shannon Institute provides a structured, challenging, and supportive opportunity for these experienced community leaders to clarify the purpose of their work and the core values they want that work to exemplify, to enhance their focus and effectiveness, and to increase their sense of fulfillment. The result that the Institute achieves is purposeful and effective leadership with a renewed commitment to community service. Ready to reflect on why your work is important or how you might do it more effectively with a renewed commitment to service? Apply now to join the Shannon in 2020: deadline is October 15, 2019. [Learn more.]

Accepting HEAL Council Applications

Health Equity Advisory and Leadership (HEAL) Council is now accepting applications. HEAL was created as part of a broader effort by the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) to address statewide inequities in health status. HEAL represents the voices of many communities most impacted by health inequities across the state, including racial and ethnic minority groups, American Indians, rural Minnesotans, Minnesotans with disabilities, LGBTQ community members, and refugees and immigrants. The knowledge and wisdom of council members will enhance the work of MDH in advancing health equity for all communities in Minnesota. Deadline: Friday, October 25, 2019. [Learn more.]
