And the end of one of the longest years in recent memory draws upon us. 2021 was full, and brought us individually and collectively: hardship and happiness, loss and gifts, frustration and clarity, stubbornness and growth. Apply to VoCul School Chef Training

Don't miss your chance to be a part of VoCul, a 14-week specialized paid vocational training program with a farm-to-school focus that teaches the foundational techniques and skills necessary for a successful culinary career. The VoCul School Chef Training (VoCul for short) is a program of The Good Acre, a nonprofit food hub. If you are 18+ and interested in joining the ranks of skilled culinary professionals working in area public schools and other food service kitchens across the Twin Cities, consider applying to join the next cohort which starts at the end of February 2022. Just Tech Fellowship

The Social Science Research Council seeks applicants for the inaugural cohort of its Just Tech Fellowship. The Just Tech Fellowship supports and mobilizes diverse and cross-sector cohorts of researchers and practitioners to imagine and create more just, equitable, and representative technological futures. Fellows will identify and challenge injustices emerging from new technologies, and identify solutions that advance social, political, and economic rights. Fellows receive two-year awards of $100,000 per year, robust supplementary funding packages to subsidize additional expenses, and seed funding to work on collaborative projects with other Just Tech Fellows. Art Shanty Projects 2022

Art Shanty Projects is a four-weekend winter art festival on a frozen lake in the Twin Cities. Artists create temporary structures and interactive, engaging art experiences and performances, turning a barren, frozen lake into a vibrant, colorful winter village. Art Shanty Projects will be back on the ice of Bde Unma / Lake Harriet on weekends from January 15 - February 6, 10am - 4pm. All projects are open-air. Audio describers and ASL interpreters will be onsite every festival day from noon to at least 3 p.m., and kicksleds are available to borrow for those who need them for transportation and accessibility. The Wild Gift Fellowship

Wild Gift selects a group of environmental entrepreneurs for a fellowship rooted in wilderness-based programs that develop leadership and business skills while building a lifelong support network. Fellows receive a: guided 3-week deep wilderness backpacking trek (in Idaho or Utah); 10-week virtual fellowship (weekly 2-hour sessions) with business and leadership workshops designed to support venture and fellow development; virtual and/or in-person celebration with Wild Gift donors and our broader network; lifetime membership in the vibrant Wild Gift network that includes alumni, mentors, and supporters​ The 2022 spring fellowship application is now open. Daylight Saving Time ended this month, having us "fall back" to Standard Time. The twice annual clock adjustments are one issue upon which our split legislature could come to bipartisan agreement during the most recent legisltaive session. As daylight continues to diminish while we count down the days to the Winter Solstice in Minnesota, may you and yours find light and warmth in opportunities for connection, honored traditions, and celebrating recent and upcoming holidays including Diwali, Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa, Hmong New Year, and more!

Culture Bearers Fellowship

The McKnight Foundation and the Indigenous Roots Cultural Arts Center of St. Paul have partnered to launch the first-ever McKnight Artist Fellowship for culture bearers. The McKnight Culture Bearers Fellowship will support three culture bearers who practice sacred and healing lifeways and share cultural art practices across generations. Fellows will receive a $25,000 unrestricted award and public recognition in support of their cultural practice. Additionally, fellows receive: Professional development support, including a stipend to honor mentors/teachers; Participate in a network of culture bearers in Minnesota Access; to Indigenous Roots facilities and resources; Honored and recognized at gathering ceremony. Archiving Sacred Spaces Fellowship

The George Floyd Global Memorial (GFGM) is offering a new Archiving Sacred Spaces Fellowship. This advanced fellowship is a one-year, full-time position in Minneapolis with a salary of $52,000 to begin on January 1, 2022 and end December 31, 2022.The goals of the program include advancing the skills of an individual for an on-going or potential career in library science, supporting the preservation work at the George Floyd Global Memorial, and with the support of the Executive Director, research and writing an article on the intersection of archiving and the sacred for publication. The University of Minnesota Extension Regional Sustainable Development Partnerships (RSDP) advance the environmental, economic and social sustainability of Greater Minnesota through authentic community-University partnerships that co-create innovative solutions and fulfill the University's land-grant mission. Do you have an idea to improve sustainability in your community? The statewide project application period takes place from January 1 to February 14 each year. Ideas can be submitted any time, but many funding decisions for the year are made following this statewide application period. Start the conversation by reaching out to the Executive Director in your region, or by submitting an Idea Brief online. [Learn more.]
 

Lead for Minnesota Fellowship

The Lead For Minnesota Fellowship is a launching pad for a lifelong commitment to public service in a community that Fellows call home. Great candidates want to serve the community, or communities, that helped make them who they are. This begins with a one-year AmeriCorps Service term where Fellows are placed within a local organization (e.g. nonprofit, government, service-minded organization) to serve in a full-time, paid position addressing critical community challenges. A palpable change is in the air as we transition into the month of November and anticipate Election Day 2021, All Saints' Day, El Día de Los Muertos, Veterans Day, and the conclusion of Daylight Saving Time over the coming weeks. These dates of remembrance urge us to reflect and honor the past even as time changes and the chance to elect new decision-makers call us to move forward toward the future we want to create. Early voting concludes November 1 and Election Day is Tuesday, November 2, 2021. Writing for Social Change

Planting People Growing Justice Leadership Institute announced their latest children’s book writing competition: Writing for Social Change. The contest will be for a 300-word children’s picture book for reading ages 4 to 8. Manuscript submissions can be fiction or non-fiction. The contest is open to Minnesota residents of African American heritage that are 18 years of age and over. Submissions must be received by Monday, Nov. 15, 2021. The winner will receive a cash prize of $1,000, 10 copies of their published book, and will be honored during the annual PPGJLI community celebration. [Learn more.]
